The FIFA Futsal World Cup is the international championship for futsal which is an indoor version of football. The world championship tournament is held every four years, on the even year between two FIFA World Cup's time. The first event was held in 1989 that was the year FIFA to become the world governing body of futsal. It was held in the Netherlands to commemorate the popularity of the game there. Through the indoor football battle in 2008, there are only two countries that have taken the Futsal World Cup winners that have been Brazil that was winning the first three times such as 1989, 1992 and 1996. After that, the Brazilians had been defeated by Spain which was a winner in the next two times in 2000 and 2004. Until in Brazil 2008 that became the first host country to win the Championship by beating the Spaniards in a penalty shootout in the Final.
